   Date:2007/04/05
The China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing (FLP) has announced that in 2006, the total cargo throughput at China's ports reached 5.6 billion tons. Some 93 million standard containers passed through the ports, the largest volume in the world for four consecutive years.

During the three-day meeting of FLP, enterprises from the coastal regions of China as well as the Yangtze River gathered in Tianjin. The theme of the meeting was "Mutual benefit, harmonious development". Attending parties discussed the development of China's ports, and made suggestions regarding China's conversion from a large country with ports to a strong country with ports.

In recent years, China's port industry has developed rapidly. There are already 13 large ports on the Chinese mainland capable of handling 100 million tons per annum, and 14 container ports capable of processing more than 1 million standard containers.

The China Ports and Harbors Association (CPHA) was founded in 1983. It is the only national association of ports and now includes more than 400 regular members and 13,000 individual members. The CPHA is an associate member of the International Association of Ports and Harbors.
