IC packaging and testing service provider Advanced Semiconductor Engineering (ASE) expects its consolidated revenues to top US$30 billion in 2020, and is eyeing a 30% global market share, chairman Jason Chang remarked at a groundbreaking ceremony for a regional headquarters in Shanghai on September 21.

The goals will be carried out through expanding its operations in China and Taiwan over the next eight to 10 years, said Chang. ASE is also looking to expand its combined workforce in China and Taiwan to 200,000 employees by 2020, Chang indicated.

ASE recently broke ground at the site of a regional headquarters in Zhangjiang, Shanghai, where it also runs plants for IC assembly and testing services and IC substrates. The new headquarters will kick off its operations in 2012.

ASE's investment in the Shanghai facilities over the next 8-10 years will amount to US$3.7 billion. By 2020, the company expects the operation to generate annual revenues of US$8.5 billion and employ over 50,000 people, up from the current 11,000, according to Chang.

In the meantime, ASE will continue expanding its operations in Taiwan with revenues over the next 8-10 years expected to quadruple from the current levels, Chang said.

In Taiwan, ASE has two manufacturing sites in Kaohsiung and Chungli. The company is building a new factory, K12, at its Kaohsiung site with completion scheduled for November 2011. It plans to recruit about 5,800 employees for K12, which will occupy 21,200 square meters of land.

ASE currently employs more than 49,000 people worldwide, according to the company.

In addition, Chang estimated that ASE's 2011 consolidated revenues will increase 10-20% from US$6 billion in 2010, despite the fact that its sales growth was earlier constrained by the impact of Japan's earthquake disasters earlier in the year. Sales during 2012-2022 are expected to increase at a CAGR of about 20%, according to Chang.
