Chunghwa Picture Tubes (CPT) has beaten Chimei Innolux (CMI) to become the largest Taiwan-based supplier of tablet PC panels thanks to orders from Amazon for its 7-inch Kindle Fire, according to industry sources.

CPT's shipments of table PC panels to Amazon have reached 500,000 units a month, the sources estimated.

Amazon is expected to continue to release the 7-inch Kindle Fire till the second quarter of 2012 and may then launch 8.9- and 10.1-inch models later on, assuring continued panel orders for CPT, the sources

However, shipments of tablet PC panels from Taiwan LCD flat panel makers still lag far behind those shipped by Samsung Electronics or LG Display, said the sources, noting that Samsung and LG Display each ship about 2-3 million units of flat panels for tablet PC applications a month currently.
