China Chain Store & Franchise Association appealed to retailers on the 13th China Retail Industry Convention in Changsha capital of Hunan Province on November 4, 2011 that they should shorten working hours or give the whole day off to improve workers welfare on the first day of Chinese lunar new year. Better Life Commercial, Yonghui Superstores, Jingong Supermarket and PDL Trade and Business Group answered the appeal immediately during the convention.

 

CCFA surveyed the top 100 FMCG retailers regarding the appeal and 83 of them gave their responses. The survey found that 41% of retailers will shorten working hours on the Spring Festival starting from this year, 45% have already done that for past years and will not change that and 14% said they need to discuss before making a decision.

 

A total of 86% of retailers will shorten working hours on the Spring Festival. Besides, some companies said that they will close their stores earlier than usual on the eve of the Spring Festival and let workers have a happy reunion dinner with
