Elpida Memory has dismissed a Nikkei report that the Japan-based memory chipmaker is looking to sell its plant in Hiroshima.
"Elpida wishes to make clear that today's media report concerning the sale of our Hiroshima Plant is not based on information Elpida itself has released and has no factual basis," the company said in a statement.
The Nikkei business daily reported that Elpida will meet high-level executives from Globalfoundries this week to discuss the possible sale.
Elpida previously unveiled plans to shift some of its in-house production to subsidiary Rexchip Electronics for cost reasons. Located in Taiwan, Rexchip now builds chips using 30nm process technology at its 12-inch facilities.
Previous reports quoted industry sources as saying that Globalfoundries is eyeing one of the 12-inch fabs of Taiwan's money-losing DRAM makers.
