Getac to push rugged PC and notebook component businesses in 2012

   Date:2012-03-01

Getac Technology, after stopping its notebook OEM business, is turning its focus to the rugged PC industry, and is also pushing its car electronics and fiberglass chassis businesses to help increase revenues and profitability for 2012, according to company chairman James Hwang.

Getac is currently the second-largest rugged PC vendor worldwide, accounting for 10% of the market. Although the company is still far behind the leader, Panasonic, which has about 60% share, Getac still has strong opportunities to achieve growth in the industry, Hwang noted.

Meanwhile, Getac's fiberglass chassis manufacturing subsidiary has already landed ultrabook chassis orders from several vendors and will start mass shipments in the second quarter.

As for the company's iron component stamping business, since Getac has been shifting its capacity to manufacture fiberglass chassis, the company expects its revenue share from the iron component stamping business to drop to only 25% in 2012, down from 50% in 2010.

Getac's car electronics business, after investment in Vietnam in October of 2011, is expected to see revenue contribution increase to CNY500-600 million (US$79.4-95.32 million) in 2012 from CNY300 million in 2011.
