TD HiTech expects operation to swing to profitability in 2012

TD HiTech Energy, a Taiwan-based provider of battery management systems and solutions, expects its operations to turn to profitability in 2012, according to the company.

TD HiTech mainly produces Li-ion battery modules for use electric bicycles and light vehicles. The company shipped 120,000 Li-ion battery modules in 2011, approaching break-even operation, according to company president Yang Mo-hua.

Apart from existing client, Switzerland-based electric bike vendor Stromer, TD HiTech is competing for orders from Spain-based vendor BH Emotion, Yang indicated. In addition, TD HiTech will begin to ship Li-ion battery modules to a global vendor of Smart bikes through BionX International, its main client, in the second quarter of 2012, with expected shipments of 15,000 units for the year, Yang noted.

In addition to bike- and light vehicle-use batteries, TD HiTech has developed small home-use battery systems of energy storage and has negotiated with vendors in Japan, with shipments in small volumes to begin in the second quarter, Yang said.

TD HiTech adopts battery cells developed through cooperation with Samsung SDI, Yang noted.
