Hutchison Whampoa's (HKG:0013) Irish unit, Three Ireland, made a bid of about EUR2 billion for Eircom Group, an Irish phone company in supervised credit protection to restructure debt, Bloomberg reports, citing people with knowledge of the matter.
The cash offer was rejected by Ireland's court-appointed examiner overseeing the reorganization because there were too many conditions attached, and Three Ireland will probably make another bid, the report says. The deadline for such proposals is May 7.
Officials of Three Ireland and Eircom declined to comment. Hutchison Whampoa's share price closed midday at HK$75.8, down 0.263%.
