LENOVO Group Ltd officially launched smart TVs in Bejing yesterday in a major step for China's biggest personal computer maker to expand beyond its core PC business.
Lenovo's four smart TV models feature Google's Android 4.0 operating system and interactive content from Shanghai Media Group. The smart TVs represent the convergence of mobile phone, computer and TV.
"We will provide content and services across various devices from handset, tablet, computer to TV," Lenovo's chairman Yang Yuanqing said in an e-mail statement.
Lenovo has already launched smartphone LePhone and tablet computer LePad, which also adopt the Android system.
Lenovo tied up with Suning, China's biggest electronics retailer, to sell the TVs in nine cities.
