This September, the number of cars imported into China has reached 103,000 units, exceeding 100,000 unit for the first time this year, shows statistics from China Automobile Trading Co.,Ltd.
According to the statistics, China’s car imports only totaled 801,000 units for the first 3 quarters, a 23.9% decrease compared to the same period last year. While in this September, the imports have reached 103,000 units, a 7% decrease compared with last September. Several brands have also witnessed marked growth, such as BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Lexus and Toyota. Finally, it seems the long-lasting decrease of car imports in China has been slowing down.
Cun Wang, Sinomach Automobile Co.,Ltd’s Senior Manager of Marketing, believed the impact of 8.12 Tianjin Port Explosions in China has contributed to the rising imports in September. Many imported brands declared large amounts of cars intensively at Tianjin Port since this September when Tianjin Customers returned to normal operation after the Explosions.
Besides, the debuts of new models also contributed to the rising imports. For example, the imports of Mercedes-Benz have reached 15,800 units, which represent a 35.2% increase after the debut of a mid-term variant of Mercedes-Benz GLE. Similarly, the debut of new Jaguar Land Rover Discovery has also pushed the brand’s imports to 4,900 units this September, a 30% increase compared to last September.
To be noted, the SUVs imported in China are still on the decrease. This September, the China’s imports of sedans, MPVs and SUV are 34,500 units, 5,700 units and 62,200 units, which represent a 9.4%, 34.2% and 8% decrease respectively compared with last September.
