New changes had happened in the top three ranking for passenger car sales in China last year, FAW–VW jumping from the first to the third, SAIC-VW ranking first and SAIC-GM the second.
Their sales respectively according to ranking order were 1.81 million, 1.75 million and1.63 million units.
Dragged by organizational restructure and capacity adjustment, FAW–VW’s sales slid 9.0 per cent from a year earlier to1.63 million units, missing the sales target of 1.85 million units and failing to keep the top-sales honor.
The joint-venture maintained main focus on car sector with Sagitar selling 279,900 units, down 6.7 per cent on a year-on-year basis, while it doesn’t have enough competitive models in SUV and MPV sector, which enjoy steep growth in China last year.
Li Pengcheng, Director of Public Relation of FAW–VW, said three SUV models would be offered to fortify the product layout. Eight new models, including the new Golf Sports Van, Bora series and MagotanB8L would be launched by the year end.
