VW will recall 78,000 imported vehicles in China, announced yesterday by AQSIQ, General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of China.
According to AQSIQ’s announcement, this recall, starting 25th this month, will cover some imported models, including Tiguan, EOS, Scirocco, Golf, Magotan, CC and Sharan manufactured between Jan 22nd, 2014 and May 6th, 2014.
It’s known that, due to design defects in the car’s steering system, a foreign object may get the chance to break in the electronics module of the steering column, damage the internal cables and further disable the horn and the driver-side airbag from deploying properly in accidents. Other models may also suffer from malfunctioning knots on the steering wheels that control the phone and audio functions.
VW(China)sales company said they will contact car owners of affected models through authorized dealers and get the vehicles fixed.
