Alternative Energy Vehicles Dominate the 2016 Beijing Auto Show

Alternative energy vehicles have played leading roles on the 2016 Beijing Auto Show. Both Chinese and foreign brought automakers their alternative energy vehicles to the show, attracting much attention.
 
Chinese brands turn out to be winners for knowing demands of China’s auto market best. As sales of alternative energy vehicles launched by Chinese automakers have been growing, they begin to invest more on developing technology for innovation.
 
SAIC introduced Roewe E950, a plug-in hybrid model known as the first medium- or high-end alternative energy car in China, and Roewe E550, a plug-in hybrid model known as the most energy-saving alternative energy car in China on the show.
 
GAC introduced GS4EV, an electric model to be brought to market this year. GAC said that its Kei brand would develop a product system of alternative energy vehicles for leading the industry. It is said that Kei aims at reaping annual sales of from 100,000 units to 200,000 units until 2020.
 
BAIC introduced electric vehicles with range of 400 km and its first model of electric SUV on the show. The sales of alternative energy vehicles were 20,129 units, a rise of 265% in 2015. Sales of Electric vehicles of BAIC were the first rated in China and the fourth globally. The total sales of electric vehicles had been 30,000 units until March 21, 2016.
 
Besides, many foreign brands show that they will focus on developing alternative energy vehicles in the future considering the fact that Chinese automakers have taken up larger market shares.
 
A few days ago, Toyota announced that their famous brands including Corolla and Ralink would launch plug-in hybrid models designated for people in China until 2018. However, Toyota had never invested too much on plug-in hybrid vehicles before.
 
The concept model of T -PrimeGTE of Volkswagen debuted on the show. It is also a plug-in hybrid model with range of 50 km. It is said that Volkswagen will produce 15 models of alternative energy vehicles in China which may cover all major segments.
 
Ford also announced to carry out its strategy to develop alternative energy vehicles. According to Ford, up to 2020, sales of alternative energy vehicles will account for from 10% to 25% of its total sales globally. Ford will bring plug-in hybrid models of C - MaxEnergi and Mondeo to China’s auto market in 2016.
