Dongfeng Getrag Transmission Co. began production of six-speed dual-clutch transmissions at a plant in the central China city of Wuhan.
The low-torque transmission was developed for compact cars, according to Magna International Inc., which acquired Getrag this year.
Dongfeng Getrag is a 50-50 joint venture between Getrag and Dongfeng Motor Corp.
The partnership, established in 2012, will mainly supply dual-clutch transmissions to Dongfeng's proprietary brand cars and Dongfeng's joint ventures with global automakers such as Honda Motor Co., Nissan Motor Co., Kia Motors Corp. and PSA Peugeot Citroen.
Getrag is based in Untergruppenbach, Germany. The company also has a joint venture with Jiangling Motor Group Co. in Nanchang in east China's Jiangxi province. That partnership produces gearboxes for Jiangling's light commercial vehicles.
