Hyundai Motor Co.'s China sales increased 7 percent year on year to 96,222 vehicles last month on strong demand for the upgraded Elantra compact sedan and Tucson crossover, Korea's Yonhap News Agency reported.
Sales of the upgraded Elantra, which went on sale in March, reached 14,664 vehicles last month.
The upgraded Tucson hit the market in September. In April, deliveries of the crossover and its previous generation approached 17,300 vehicles.
While Hyundai sales rose last month, Kia Motors' deliveries dropped 10 percent from a year earlier to 50,156 vehicles. Kia hopes to spur a recovery with the KX5 crossover, which it launched in March.
