Beiqi Foton Motor Co., the truck subsidiary of BAIC Motor Group Co., received an order for 100 fuel cell buses from Shouqiev Co., an alternative energy vehicle leasing company in Beijing.
Foton will deliver the first 60 buses to the buyer late this year and 40 buses toward the end of next year, the company said, without disclosing the value of the order.
Shouqiev is a subsidiary of Shou Qi Group Co., a public bus and taxi operator owned by the Beijing city government.
The buses, which are 8.5 meters long, were developed by Foton, Beijing-based Tsinghua University and Beijing Sinohytec Co., a fuel cell vehicle developer backed by private equity firms.
Foton, based in Beijing, is China's largest producer of light trucks. It also runs a heavy-duty truck joint venture with Daimler AG.
The Chinese government subsidizes sales of electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids and fuel cell vehicles. A fuel cell vehicle qualifies for subsidies up to 200,000 yuan ($30,700).
