China BYD Automobile’s vehicle manufacturer prepares to sell cars in Brazil

Sao Paulo, Brazil, 30 Aug – Chinese automotive company BYD Automobile (002594.SZ)is preparing to start selling its cars in Brazil, where its F0 and F3 models are already being tested, the Brazilian press reported.

Created in 2003 and with headquarters in the special economic region of Shenzhen, in Guangdong province, BYD Automobile is a subsidiary of the BYD Co. group and has an installed production capacity of 700,000 vehicles per year.

The Brazilian press, which noted that little had been revealed about the company’s plans for Brazil, added that entering the Brazilian market was expected to happen in 2012, based on an F0 model with a 1-litre engine and a price of less than 25,000 reals (US$15,600).

The Sandrecar group, owned by businessman Pacífico Paoli (former chairman of Fiat Brazil), is responsible for BYD’s operations in Brazil. (macauhub)
