November 16 -- China Unicom (600050.SH,0762.HK)may cooperate with Taiwan Mobile to establish a joint venture which will sell 3C (computer, communications and consumer electronics) products in mainland China, reports cctime.com, citing an unnamed insider.
Taiwan Mobile chairman Cai Mingxing and China Unicom’s general manager Lu Yiming had entered into negotiations on November 14 regarding the proposed joint venture.
According to the report, Taiwan Mobile will initially establish a sales subsidiary, Myfone, in Taiwan. Myfone will then cooperate with China Unicom to establish a sales company in mainland China.
Separately, there were rumors that VIBO Telecom, a 3G mobile operator in Taiwan, was interested to invest in China Unicom.
The rumor was later denied by VIBO Telecom’s chairman Xu Shengxiong.
