Sales of LCD TVs in the Taiwan market grew by 5% on year in the first seven months of 2011 with total LCD TV sales for all of the year expected to reach one million units. Sony recaptured the top rank in July with a 14-15% share.
Sony Taiwan cited a recent GfK survey saying that with its 40-inch LED TV models' prices having reached the sweet spot and its 32-inch LCD TVs' price coming down to NT$16,900 (US$572.43), its share in the Taiwan market grew in July 2011. Sony Taiwan expected the October-December high season and early shopping for Chinese New Year would help its sales for the second half of 2011 stand at a similar level to that of the same period last year.
Sales of 46-inch LED-backlit LCD TVs have grown the fastest among all sizes in Taiwan so far in 2011 due to its thin and lightweight form factor, Sony Taiwan said.
For the overall Taiwan market, LED sets may account for 40-50% of the unit sales during the year-end high season, the company said. LED models' peneration for the entire 2011 is expected to reach 30-40%, accounting for 60% of LCD TV's total revenues, it said.
As for the overall 3D TV market in Taiwan, 3D models will account for 10% of Taiwan's TV market in terms of unit sales and 20% in terms of revenues in 2011, the company said. Further growth can be expected in 2012, the company said.
