Canon started production of its EOS series DSLR cameras and corresponding EF series interchangeable lenses at its factories in Japan in 1987 and reached a cumulative global production of 50 million EOS DSLR cameras in September, followed by 70 million EF lenses in October, according to Canon Marketing (Taiwan).

Canon has three factories in Japan and one in Taiwan to produce EOS DSLR cameras as well as two factories in Japan, one in Taiwan and one in Malaysia to produce EF interchangeable lenses, Canon indicated.

Canon noted that it led the DSLR camera market for seven consecutive years from 2004 to 2010.
