Taiwan-based BIOS maker Insyde Software is expected to be one of the players to benefit most from Windows 8 as the company is currently the fastest player to adopt UEFI BIOS and was also the official partner of Microsoft over the Windows 8 BIOS system, according to sources from PC players.
Although Insyde is currently leading in the notebook BIOS market, the company is still behind American Megatrends (AMI) in the desktop BIOS market, while Phoenix Technologies, having disadvantages in development of UEFI BIOS, is seeing its influence in the BIOS market dropping.
Currently, the notebook BIOS business accounts for 80% of Insyde's revenues, while the server BIOS business has risen to 15%, benefiting from orders from Dell and China-based vendors. Android business currently accounts for 5% of its revenues.
Insyde had consolidated revenues of NT$1.33 billion (US$45.09 million) for 2011, up 29.8% on year, with net profits reaching NT$422 million, up 66.3% on year, and earning per share (EPS) reached NT$11.03.
