In northern China, Hyundai Sonata ranked first with respect to the number of licensed vehicles of medium and premium brands in the first nine months in 2015; Peugeot 508 and Nissan Teana ranked second and third respectively. And the followers were Citroen C5, Kia K5, Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, Volkswagen Passat, Buick Regal, Volkswagen Magotan and Ford Mondeo.
The segment of medium and premium vehicles turns out to be the battleground of joint ventures. Though being emphasized all the time by automakers, medium and premium vehicles of some brands lack development and ability to react appropriately to market shifts, leading to their bad performance in the market.
Korean Brands Provide More Choices
In northern China, the number of the registered Sonata range of Beijing Hyundai only reached 5,785 units in the first nine months in 2015. Considering the increasing sales of Sonata 9 and the dropping sales of Sonata 8, Sonata range has achieved the replacement of old models with new models. The sales of Kia K5 stood at 2,882 units, halving that of Sonata range, but there is room to grow based on its stable monthly sales.
Japanese Brands Maintain Advantage
With the total sales of 4,908 units, Teana and Teana XV were only inferior to X-Trail in Beijing.
As the bestseller of Guangzhou Honda, Accord still dominated the segment of Japanese brands and achieved large cumulative sales of 12,010 units.
The sales of Camry reached 10,815 units. Though sales of its old models showed downward trend, the increasing sales of new models drove the overall sales to some extents. To be noticed, hybrid Camry showed certain competitiveness with a slight rise in sales. And it has accounted for about 20% of market share in Tianjin, a city next to Beijing.
On the contrary, however, both Spirior and Reiz made bad performance in the last nine months.
German Brands Lead Others in Europe and America
Dongfeng Peugeot 508, the flagship model of French brands, gained low market recognition with the small sales of double digits all the time. Only that in Beijing was exceptional and reached 512 units. The sales of Dongfeng Citroen C5 stood at 1,891 units in Beijing and 420 units in Tianjin, a bit better than that of Peugeot 508. But from the perspective of monthly sales, the growth in the third quarter was not so promising.
In the segment of medium and premium vehicles, German brands always have their places. The number of registered Passat got to 31,012 units in northern China including 12,516 units in Beijing, only inferior to Lavida.
Magotan still remained strong, the registration amount to 25908 vehicles with the number of registered vehicles amounting to 25,908 units.
