The number of people visiting the 2016 Beijing Auto Show was 815,000, dropping by 4.3% compared with that of last one for the first time. In the past 12 years, the Beijing Auto Show had been so attracting that the number of visitors hadn’t showed any downward trend.
Unlike before, there was one day available for media during the 2016 Beijing Auto Show. Then people except for journalists weren’t allowed to visit the show that day, resulting in decline to some extents.
The auto show turns out not to be the only platform on which customers can know latest launched models of different brands. Online marketing campaigns allow customers to know new models before they are brought to the market. Furthermore, nowadays, many people in China can afford to buy vehicles of different models, unlike before when people could only went to auto shows for having a look at vehicles they could not afford.
Cui Dongshu, secretary-general of China Passenger Cars Association, pointed out that auto shows getting less attractive resulted from the following factors. There was not enough innovation and development brought about when launching new models. The Beijing Auto Show hasn’t been as famous as other international auto shows. Chinese automakers haven’t done enough innovation to develop new models. There is still a long way for the Beijing Auto Show to go before it can get worldly-known.
However, though it seemed not as crowded as before on the Beijing Auto Show, those who visited the show tended to be potential customers rather than visitors.
Experts say that the key factor deciding whether an auto show was great or not lies in that it could indicate what automotive culture is. The number of visitor getting smaller may not mean that the Beijing Auto Show began to lose its charming.
