According to the latest data released by Geely, its sales volume reaches 45,850 units in May, increasing 19.7% compared to 38,395 units in May, 2015, the highest monthly growth in 2016. The sales growth is largely promoted by the domestic sales volume, which increases 29.2% from 34,231 units in May, 2015 to 44,220 units, while the exported sales volume decreases 60.9% to 1,630 units. Geely’s total sales volume from January to May reaches 233,763 units, increasing 6.7% from 219,038 units in last year. The domestic sales increases 10.1% to 224,050 units and exported sales decreases 37.5% to 9,713 units.
Emgrand, the best-selling one, sells 16,101 units in May, increasing 21% compared with the same period of last year. Jingang and Yuanjing sell 4,352 units and 10,885 units, decreasing 2% and increasing 31% respectively. GC9 sells 4,024 units, a double volume compared with last year.
More optimistic news comes from SUV models. Geely’s first crossover SUV, Emgrand GS, sells 2,800 units in May and it now has a higher-than-expected order quantity. NL3 sells 6,049 units in May, increasing more than 50% with 4,002 units in April. The total sales volume of GX7, SX7, GX9 and NL3 reaches 7,073 units, increasing 26%.
Some time ago, Geely announced to purchase the total shares of Geely Baoji and Geely Shanxi with a respective price of RMB 702m and 720m, making Geely Baoji into a high-end car and SUV production base, while Geely Shanxi will be used to produce new high-end cars and middle and high-end electric vehicles.
In the future, Geely Baoji will burden 90% capacity of NL3, with a planned monthly capacity reaching 16,000 units and yearly capacity reaching 200,000 units. It’s estimated that NL3’s sales volume will increase greatly when Geely Baoji’s expanded production releases the limited capacity.
