Andreas Schaaf, Cadillac's European chief, has been appointed the brand's vice president for China, effective June 1.
General Motors says Schaaf will report directly to Cadillac's global president, Johan de Nysschen.
Schaaf has been vice president of Cadillac Europe since July. He previously ran DriveNow, the European car-sharing service.
Schaaf started his automotive career at BMW AG in 1996. He was president of BMW Group India from 2010 to 2012 after a stint as the group's sales and marketing chief in South Korea.
China is now Cadillac's second-biggest market after the United States. Last year, Cadillac deliveries in China rose 17 percent to 79,779 vehicles on strong demand for the ATS sport sedan and the long-wheelbase ATS-L.
