Chery sees May sales rise 16% with boost from compact crossover, sedan

   Date:2016/06/21
Chery Automobile Co.'s deliveries advanced 16 percent year on year to 41,384 vehicles last month, reflecting robust sales of the Tiggo 3 compact crossover.

Chery launched sales of the upgraded Tiggo 3 on May 21. For the month, sales of the new model totaled 10,039 vehicles. Sales of the previous-generation Tiggo 3 also jumped 18 percent from a year earlier to 11,646 vehicles.

Deliveries of the Arrizo 7, the company's flagship compact sedan, totaled 10,986 vehicles. The company did not disclose sales of other models, and it did not release year to date results.

In May, Chery outperformed the industry's 11-percent light-vehicle sales growth.

To maintain momentum, the company will launch three compact crossovers -- a compact, a subcompact model and an electric-powered vehicle -- in the second half of this year.

Chery also plans to introduce a plug-in hybrid version of the Arrizo 7 compact sedan this year.

Chery, a state-owned automaker based in the east China city of Wuhu, operates joint ventures with Jaguar Land Rover and Kenon Holdings of Singapore.
