Volvo sales advance 6.1% on crossover bump

   Date:2016/07/05
Volvo Car Group's China sales rose 6.1 percent to 7,727 vehicles in June on brisk deliveries of locally produced models.

The company enjoyed robust demand for the XC60 crossover and the S60L "stretch" sedan. The newly redesigned XC90 crossover also fared well, Volvo said.

For the first six months, Volvo sold 40,688 vehicles in China, an increase of 6.3 percent year over year. Despite a strong sales upsurge in the United States, China remains Volvo's biggest global market.

June marks the first month on the job for Chen Lizhe, Volvo's sales chief for mainland China, who took over the post on June 1.

Volvo's sales have picked up a bit since May, when the brand's China deliveries rose only 1 percent. But it's not clear yet whether the Swedish automaker is maintaining market share. Industry sales for the month of June have not yet been released.

Volvo, previously owned by Ford Motor Co., was acquired by Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co. in 2010.
