Nissan Motor Co. said its China deliveries rose 17 percent year on year in June to 109,100 vehicles as the Japanese automaker overcame its slow sales start early this year.
For the first six months, Nissan sales totaled 609,900 vehicles, up 3.8 percent.
For the same period, Toyota's China sales rose nearly 16 percent to 592,100 vehicles, while Honda deliveries increased 18 percent to 542,527.
Nissan appears to be recovering from its sluggish start this year, when sales edged up only 0.8 percent in the first four months.
The company hopes to boost China sales by launching more models for Venucia, its no-frills brand in China. One new model will debut late this year, and others will be introduced in 2017 and later.
Dongfeng Nissan Passenger Vehicle Co. is a joint venture between Dongfeng Motor Corp. and Nissan. In June, the partnership opened a 500 million yuan ($76 million) r&d complex in the south China city of Guangzhou.
The center will design cars and provide technical support for Venucia. Nissan executives have said they view 2016 as a "bridge" year for Venucia.C
