   Date:2016/06/07
Mercedes-Benz deliveries in China jumped nearly 39 percent year on year in May to 38,271 vehicles, as the company appeared poised to claim bragging rights as China's No. 2 luxury brand.

In April, Mercedes caught up with rival BMW, as the two companies each sold about 35,000 vehicles. BMW has not yet announced May sales in China.

In the first five months, Mercedes sales in China rose 36 percent to 180,537 vehicles.

Mercedes sales have soared since 2013, when it shook up its China management and consolidated distribution channels for imports and locally produced vehicles.

The company also has enjoyed strong demand for the GLC and GLA in China's red-hot crossover market.

Now Mercedes is expanding its China lineup. In April at the Beijing auto show, the automaker unveiled a long-wheelbase E-class sedan, which is 140 millimeters (5.5 inches) longer than the standard version.
